I come to this School Board race with three valuable qualifications:
I’m also a community leader. I’ve been a resident of Southwest Orange County for over 20 years now, with 9 years of that as a Homeowners Association Board member and President. In that role I’ve worked hard to make sure new growth pays for it’s impacts on our local schools by leading lawsuits against new projects that ultimately netted over $750,000 for the School District that it would not have otherwise gotten. I chaired the School Impact Fee Advisory Group for Orange County Public Schools that resulted in the second highest impact fee in the State; and I currently sit on the Orange County Development Advisory Board.
Finally, as a business man I feel the School Board and OCPS staff need to be more open, responsive and accountable to the voters. I’m dedicated to making sure Orange County Public Schools better allocate resources by providing better PLANNING for growth, improving classroom SAFETY for our children, while insisting on greater ACCOUNTABILITY from all, no matter how great or small their role in the education of our students.
I have a firm grasp of the issues, as well as a willingness to listen and strive for consensus in bringing diverse groups together on the many educational issues that affect our community. I think that’s the main reason I’ve received the endorsement of many individuals and families; and why I’m also endorsed by the Classroom Teachers Association, the West Orange Political Alliance, the Orange County Internet News Service, the Orlando Regional Realtor's Association, the Home Builders Association of Metro Orlando, and the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association.
I hope you will agree that my qualifications as both an involved parent, a long-time resident activist and a business man make me uniquely qualified to bring about change on the Orange County School Board - and that you will VOTE FOR ME as your representative from District 4.
